this is so true...

Murphy's nurses laws

* When you need the money, your shift is cancelled; when you have a weekend planned, you have to do overtime.
* Realizing the patient you've just injected has a serious infection causes you to stab yourself with the used needle.
* A 500 pound patient needs all care, while your 80 pound patient needs a finger dressing ... and your colleague has a "bad back."
* It's you're first night shift for three years. And it's a full moon.
* You're doing the "Only 27 more minutes of the shift from hell happy-dance", only to turn around to see your supervisor standing there.
* In a critical situation, the most highly qualified clinician will offer the most advice and the least support.
* The absurdity of the suggestion is directly proportional to the distance from the bedside.
* As soon as you finish a thirty minute dressing the doctor will come in, and take a look at the wound.
* The disoriented patient always comes from a Nursing Home whose beautiful paperwork has no phone number on it.
* Your nose will itch the very moment your gloved hands get contaminated with bodily fluids.
* The patient who has been dying all night finally meets his maker 12.5 minutes before shift change.
* You walk out of a patient's room after you've asked them if they need anything: they will put the call bell on as you are about three quarters the way down the hall.
* The patient furthest away from the nurses' station rings the call bell more often than the patient nearest to the nurses' station.
* The doctor with the worst handwriting and most original use of the English Language will be responsible for your most critical patient.
* You always remember "just one more thing" you need after you've gowned, gloved, and masked and gone into that isolation room.
* The correct depth of compression in adult CPR is a bit less than the depth you just reached when you broke those ribs.
* When you cancel extra staff because it's so quiet, you are guaranteed a rash of admissions.
* If you wear a new white uniform, expect to be thrown up on.
Corollary: Residents always poop on your brand new shoes.
* When management smiles at you, be very, very afraid ...
* Staffing will gladly send you three aides--but you have to float two of your RNs.
* As soon as you discontinue the IV line, more fluids will be ordered.
* Mandatory meetings are always scheduled after you've had the night from hell and just want to go home to bed.
* You always forget what it was you wanted after you get to the supply room. You always remember when you get back to the other end ...
* Doctors only ask your name when the patient isn't doing well.
* Success occurs when no one is looking, failure occurs when the boss is watching.
* As soon as you've ordered the pizzas, 25 patients show up at the ER registration desk along with three ambulances all with cardiac arrests!
* For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism.
* Ten seconds after you have finished giving a complete bed bath and changing the bed, the patient has a giant code brown.
* If a patient needs four pills, the packet will contain three.
* Your buddies who were reading the paper at the nurses' desk a minute ago always disappear when you need help ...
* Expect to get your pay raise the same day the hospital raises the parking rates (and other charges)

okay so i have this undying feeling that this summer is going to suck. we're all grown up now and everybody has to work. i work nights and weekends which basically means that i sit around all day while everyone else is at work and then i go to work when everyone comes home. i am so stressed about work this weekend because i dont even get to sleep in between. sat. 3-11, sun 7-3 5-10, mon 3-11. eh, i'll make the best of it.

things to look forward to this summer...
NHCHW conference
camping
Penn State
Red Sox game
beach trips
learning how to ride a motorcycle

okay maybe summer won't be as bad as i thought

so i am getting a new car definitely! i am really excited to have a car again :) but first we have to get the title changed, put it on the insurance, pay the owner, get it registered, and get plates. but after that i have a new car, and i am paying for it all by myself. i am done classes for my freshman year in college! and i pulled off better grades than last semester :) i come home the 13th so i'll see everybody then! and then my birthday is coming up soon, on the 21st. i am really going to miss everyone from school and all the good times we had. but i will be making lots of road trips in my new car to visit everyone, i promise! i dont want to pack, i dont want to leave! im going to miss everyone so much.
i havent been home in forever basically. i went home one night for a red sox game, but i literally only slept there. we got home at 130 and i was up again at 6 to get ready for class. so my laundry has been building up for who knows how long. i am actually going to have to do my laundry here for the second time in my life because i am pretty much running out of stuff to wear.
okay well i should really get back to studying for humanities and stuff (i need to bring up my grade in that class reeeally bad)

well since i'm not really tired, i will update my journal about my day... the morning was super busy, but overall it was awesome because i got dunkin donuts for breakfast, ice coffee and a bagel. then because holly is awesome she drove me to the post office and printed out my scholarship for me! then i had to work at twelve, but instead of sitting at the desk i helped meg-doll clean the room. then when i was supposed to be working on my humanities stuff, i made jimmy a b-e-a-utiful letter and a birthday card for my brother. then i was DD for the girls so they could go to the hawks picnic, but it was miserable. mostly because it was pouring outside and they weren't having a good time. then i picked them up and got off work and shawn came up to visit. janet came up soon after that and she had some severe troubles with the directions i gave her. but she made it up and hopefully made it home. then we sat around forever trying to figure out what to do. st a's can be super boring sometimes and i think it happens mostly when shawn comes to visit. but i ended up having the most fun i have literally ever had here before...

we went mud sliding on the rugby field! we were covered head to toe with mud. it was so much fun mud-wrestling with the girls and having a coed mud fight with the boys. it really reminded me of now and then especially because they stole our shoes at the end. i have to say though, we were entirely covered in mud. and for the first time i actually had to opportunity to see what i would look like if i was black!! we all came back to baroody afterwards and basically trashed the place, but we did clean up after ourselves. now i just hope the mud came out of my clothes. then when we got back meg-doll and i took a shower together, yeah i know, i've been looking forward to that in months! ;)

then meg, cait, and i went out for a quick trip for the extreme "take-it-back" moment. we were unsuccessful but we make excellent partners in crime :)

well all-in-all i had a great night. i would so much rather spend the night rolling around in the mud than drinking at some party. i guess thats the typical tomboy in me. well i hope you had fun shawn and janet! and i cant wait to see you both when i get home for summer vacation :)

ps: i ate fast food three times today.. dunkins bagel for breakfast, mcdonalds for lunch, and dairy queen ice cream for dinner.. and i wonder why i gained the freshman fifteen hahaha

pps: shawn lavoie called me "butch" today... apparently i have progressed past the "you're not a girl, you're just a cool guy with long hair" stage and i have moved on to "butch". hahaha thanks a lot shawn! (i guess this means i should invest in some overalls and i should cut my hair short and spike it) ;)
